We all know that the Atlanta Spirit is an absolute mess on so many levels, but the time has come for Michael Gearon and his partners to show Hawks coach Mike Woodson the door. Woodson, who is 87-201 in three-plus seasons with Atlanta, described his team this week as in a "funk'' following their seventh loss in eight games. Well, that funk on the bench starts at the top, with Woodson.
Yes, general manager Billy Knight has also failed during his tenure with Atlanta, but to get this thing turned around as quickly as possible, Woodson needs to be released immediately and replaced temporarily by assistant Larry Drew. Heck, I don't care if you let recent Falcons interim coach Emmitt Thomas guide the team, just get Woodson out of there now! In the watered-down Eastern Conference, it's not too late for the Hawks to snap an eight-season playoff drought.
But if Woodson remains on the Hawks bench, this floundering outfit will again be at home come the postseason. There's a growing number of fans who have begun calling the team's main telephone number (404-878-3800) and politely voicing their displeasure with the way this team is being coached.
