Apologies to West Virginia

Readers of the story "The Divorce Party," in this week's edition of The Sunday Paper will notice no doubt, and given the permanent condition of indignation that seems to afflict some of our readers, may become enraged by the fact, that I incorrectly attributed the GOP win of West Virginia during the Feb. 5 primaries to Mitt Romney. It was, in fact, Mike Huckabee who won the "Mountain State." More observant--or perhaps unhealthily obsessed--readers will note that I correctly attributed the win of W. Va. to Huckabee in the news story on th Super Tuesday Primary Challenge in the same edition. How did this happen? It was a late night at the SP when we went to press for the current edition and a quick glance at the list of state wins was far too quick a glance for a pair of tired eyes. I do apologize to the Huckabee folks for wrongly giving their win to Romney, but he did after all drop out of the race, so such mistakes hardly pose a threat at this point. As for those W. Virginians who would like to tar and feather me because I left their state off of the Feb. 5 primary list entirely in our Jan. 27 edition and then gave their state erroneously to Romney in the story on divorce, I'm sorry. When you say that I apparently have something against your state, I can see why you might think that, but really, folks, I can't think of anything that West Virginia's done to me (or for me, for that matter). I've been there twice and it's a gorgeous state, although some of the people, frankly, are a little terrifying. At any rate, I was going to record an audio file of me singing your state song by way of apology but then I found out that it's not the cool one by John Denver titled "Country Roads" that I used to sing with my older siblings in the 1970s, but some really clunky number with a chorus of "Oh, the hills, beautiful hills, How I love those West Virginia hills! If o'er sea o'er land I roam, Still I'll think of happy home, And my friends among the West Virginia hills." I'm not going to sing that. Sorry. And sorry about forgetting your state exists and then incorrectly writing that you mostly voted for Romney. I wish you the best. Have you considered moving to Connecticut?

It is better not to do a wrong thing rather than doing it and apologizing after wards. Usually all people depends on the word sorry too much. They will do some wrong thing after that they will say sorry. This practice is not at all good.
