We love a parade

Georgia Tech thrashed Clemson 13-3 and the Falcons won their first game of the season. But it was 19th annual Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic that capped a truly whirlwind weekend on Sept. 29. The Georgia Power Parade of Excellence kicked things off with a bevy of marching bands, dancers and cheerleaders showing off their impeccable outfits and smooth moves. Then there was the pre-game concert, courtesy of Grammy-nominated Atlanta rapper Yung Joc and 17-year-old rising star Soulja Boy, promoting his rim-rattling debut “Souljaboytellem.com.” The game was pretty good, too, with Florida A&M beating Tennessee State in a real 18-17 squeaker. Crank that, indeed.
FILL ’ER UP!
“Sideways” aside, wine aficionados are usually considered a more genteel, refined bunch than their beer-swilling brethren. Well, somebody forgot to tell the folks at the Wine South Festival’s Sept. 28 Reserve Event, which featured selections from invitation-only wineries, paired with food offerings from some of Atlanta’s top restaurants. These grape connoisseurs (including V-103 personality Frank Ski and his wife, Tanya Rodriguez) also enjoyed live and silent auctions to benefit Angel Flight of Georgia. But no one got into the, er, spirit of the evening more than Karen North of marketing firm Devign, who modeled the latest in cork couture. We tried to make a vest out of wine bottles, but that didn’t work out so well.
