| | | Fall News InternYou can spend you summer making coffee runs for people who don’t have time to help you learn the ropes of reporting, or you can spend it learning how to be a reporter by reporting. It’s up to you. At The Sunday Paper in Atlanta, our interns aren’t free couriers—they report and write news stories from day one on the job. Our news editor is a 1992 graduate of the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, with 16 years experience in covering politics, crime, health care, business and the environment in Georgia. Journalism is a field that allows you to meet interesting people, put ethics to the test in situations with real consequences and have an impact on the world around you. The Sunday Paper is one great way to immerse yourself in the field right here in Atlanta. Here’s what our previous news interns have to say:Colby Dunn, University of Georgia, Sunday Paper intern, ‘07"
During my internship with the Sunday Paper, I was given the amazing opportunity to delve into the world of journalism, chasing stories ranging from rural healthcare to bio-terror research while building my interviewing, research and writing skills. Because I was able to see each story from the idea to the end result, my skills in all aspects of reporting developed tremendously in my time at the Sunday Paper. The knowledge and experience I gained from my editor, Stephanie Ramage, have proven invaluable, and since my Sunday Paper internship, I have gone on to become the editor of ugazine, UGA's campus magazine, as well as an intern for the Morgan County Citizen. Recently, I moved to the United Kingdom where I completed an internship for the City of Westminster. I graduated from the University of Georgia in May and I am now preparing to return to London to take a six-month job with the City of Westminster."
Rachel Brown, Brown University, Sunday Paper intern, '06
"My internship with The Sunday Paper solidified my passion for journalism and highlighted the ways writing can be used to raise public awareness within my fields of interest, which are international conflict resolution and public education. During my internship, I reported on a wide variety of topics including environmental protection, domestic abuse, homelessness, and the work of local non-profit organizations. Because the editor gave me ownership over my stories, I was able to hone my interviewing, writing, and editing skills, and gain insight into the publication process. I am a 2005 graduate of Brown University, and since my Sunday Paper internship, I have been accepted into intern programs at The Carter Center and CARE. In the fall, I plan to attend the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University to study conflict resolution and international law and development."
Bobby Feingold, Northeastern University, Sunday Paper intern, '06
"My time at the Sunday Paper truly cultivated my interest in journalism, showing me how a relevant and interesting news story can have city-wide impact. With News Editor Stephanie Ramage's immediate trust in my abilities and vast well of experience to draw upon, I wrote real news articles, working from the initial story concept to publishing. Plus, it was a thrill seeing my name in print distributed all around Atlanta!
I am currently an intern at Interview Magazine in New York and working part-time at a public relations company. I plan to work in the magazine industry after college and explore new options in online journalism."
