News from the front
Two bits of news from the “Peachtree Battle” front. First, the Ansley Park Playhouse puts on the show’s 1,000th performance on May 20 (yes—a thousand). The play was originally scheduled for an eight-week limited engagement when it opened on Sept. 7, 2001. It has since been seen by over 200,000 patrons and grossed more than $2.5 million, surpassing “Driving Miss Daisy” as the longest-running play in Atlanta theater history. Second, “Battle” cast member Justice Leak (right, with hottie Kristyn Sammons), was just cast in upcoming “The Great Debaters,” starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. Kudos, Leak. Big kudos.

Mia makes her case
With acting credits in everything from “Rosemary’s Baby” to “The Great Gatsby,” graceful waif Mia Farrow has been married to Frank Sinatra and Woody Allen (which, frankly, just makes our brains hurt). Throw in her 10 adopted children (she has 14 total) and, well, she’s pretty much the Angelina Jolie of the older generation. So it was a big deal when Farrow showed up at Emory (above) a couple of weeks back for Class Day (sort of like the students’ own commencement ceremony) to share her pictures of the humanitarian crisis in the Sudan. She made no mention of the quality crisis regarding Woody Allen’s last five movies.

You beast!
Last Saturday, the city’s movers and shakers descended upon Zoo Atlanta for the 22nd annual Beastly Feast, the nonprofit’s second-to-none fundraiser. The setting: the Ford Pavilion (above). The theme: “Panda Extravanganza” (sort of a no-brainer). A few of the A-listers in attendance (right, from left): Catherine Ticer with Ford Motor Company (which sponsored the event), Danielle Rollins from the Zoo Atlanta Board and Debbie Windey, also from Ford. The highlight of the evening: When the lemurs, claiming to be the red pandas, raided the wet bar.
