A brush with fête

Talk about your party of the week: Jugglers on stilts welcomed patrons to Fun Fête at the Atlanta History Center on Jan. 26. The “fun” part of the program was hard to ignore: a fortune teller, carnival-style games and auction items—like those displayed by CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta. As for the fête? The $300-per-plate gala benefited Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and honored board member and local philanthropic legend Lila Hertz. And yes, that’s honorary chair Jane Fonda (shown) making the dreaded finger-quotes. You tell ’em, girlfriend.
FLOWER POWER
While Fun Fête wins our coveted “Party of the Week” award, the Jan. 28 opening night party for Imagine That! The 21st Annual Southeastern Flower Show finishes a strong second. The black-tie gala, held at the Georgia World Congress Center, welcomed scores of gardening enthusiasts for an evening of food, music and a live auction—not to mention its own “Ecological Manifesto of 2011.” The Flower Show runs through Feb. 3. That’s Director of Show Design Chuck Henry with Executive Director Kay McKenzie, and Flower Magazine columnist Mimi Brown and founder/editor Margot Shaw—all posing in front of the “Flower Bed.” Anyway, a bloomin’ good time was had by all. (Oh, yes, we went there.)
