BOB SCHIEFFER

BOONDOGGLE! THE ANTI-MAGIC SHOW
Billed as a magic show for people who don’t like magic, this performance by Mick Stone, a former street performer and current corporate entertainer, aims to show audiences there’s more to magic than children’s parties, with sleight-of-hand, mind-reading tricks and a version of Russian Roulette using iron spikes. 7:30 pm. HOTOBERFEST
This one-day “sustainable event” seeks to raise awareness of sustainable choices in construction, farming, health, recycling and more. Focused around the theme “Earth-Beer-Music,” Hotoberfest offers a “beer garten” featuring products from breweries that exemplify quality choices in ingredients, brewing methods and use of organics or sustainable operations; and performances from live local bands and DJs. A free-of-charge public area is open from noon to 7 p.m., with a special ticketed portion open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. “Beer Garten” tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of the event. A special VIP “green ticket” is $50 in advance, and $55 day of the event, and offers access to a VIP tent. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Glenwood Park. www.hotoberfest.net.

JAPANFEST
The largest Japanese festival in the Southeast features food, music, origami, anime, flower arranging, language lessons, karaoke and much more, designed to offer visitors the experience of an authentic Japanese festival and an introduction to Japanese culture. PUMPKIN FESTIVAL
Sixth annual celebration of fall, featuring nearly 4,000 pumpkins, 500 stalks of corn, 500 bales of hay and 35 fairy tale-themed scarecrows, as well as the Sci Guys Science Show, Backyard Circus, a maze, parade and more.
