BEAR HUG
The Spanish jewelry store Tous has set up shop at North Point Mall. The family-owned business is based out of Barcelona, with 258 store locations across the globe, including its newest store in Lenox Square. The spacious northside store offers more than 1,750 square feet for housing luxury baubles graced with its signature teddy bear. Tous is having its grand opening Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. HOME SWEET HOME
Fall fashion doesn’t stop with what you drape on your figure. Incorporate style into your home with distinctive furnishings and decor. Home Identity, a new imported-furniture boutique, recently opened in West Buckhead’s Chattahoochee design district. Shop owners Jason Russell and Chad Salenius are both former ad execs who draw on their Far East travels and consumer knowledge to fill a niche with what they call “world styling,” a blend of urban, antique and rustic imports. The duo takes international buying trips and works directly with manufacturers to acquire Chinese antiques, top-grain Italian leather furniture and a host of distinctive accessories and art. www.homeidentity-atl.com.
MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
Seems like everyone’s foraging for gold by heading west and opening up a boutique, to boot. One of West Midtown’s latest shops is 1Five0, a fashionable store where nothing costs more than $150. Owners Jen Ripley and Leslie Fram (of 99X fame) also own the boutique next door, Luxe Atlanta. The new men’s and women’s boutique offers dresses and skirts from trendy and up-and-coming labels, such as Y-Apparel, To the Max and Joie, along with a handsome selection of vintage cowboy shirts, striped blazers, button-downs and graphic tees. Designer denim comes close to the $150 mark, but the well-positioned store also sells scores of slightly random but very cool offerings, such as shoes, dinnerware, picture frames, jewelry and leather goods. On Sept. 18 from 7 to 10 p.m., Luxe Atlanta and 1Five0 co-host a pre-party for Nourishment VIII, a fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank happening Nov. 3. Shop at both boutiques during these hours, and 10 percent of your purchase price will benefit the food bank. A donation of three or more canned goods scores 10 percent off your purchases. And because fashion and music go hand in hand (you’ve got to have a beat to strut your stuff to), 1Five0 hosts in-store performances by local bands (and artists, too) during monthly P.P.P. (pizza, popcorn, Pabst) parties. Later this month, catch Sam Thacker on Sept. 27. www.150atlanta.com.
GO GO GADGET
While few go to the extremes that Britney Spears has, most women have a few hairs they’d like to get rid of. Sephora’s just introduced a myriad of fall’s must-have beauty gadgets, including the no!no!, a hair remover that you can use at home. The device combines Thermicon, a technology that conducts a gentle pulse of heat to the hair, with a thermodynamic wire. It’s safe, though, and with no mess, no cuts, no burns, no noise and no funny undies (you know what I’m talking about, girls). The catch: No!no! can’t be used on the face or with water. Stubble-free skin can be yours for $250. www.sephora.com.
IN YOUR DRAWERS
We always like to hear that super-rich people are investing their dollars in our local economy. The Donald, who’s bringing his Trump Towers to Atlanta, selected Atlanta-based Knobappeal to design a custom line of furniture hardware for his new property. Located in the heart of Midtown’s Arts District, Trump Towers Atlanta is slated for completion in early 2010. www.knobappeal.com. SP
