Get your Cinco de Mayo on!

OK, so it wasn’t technically May 5...

...but Fiesta Atlanta nonetheless easily qualifies as the SP party of the week. More than 25,000 revelers headed downtown to Centennial Olympic Park for hot-blooded music, passionate dancing, cool arts and crafts, and delectable eats. The Dogwood Festival, the Inman Park Festival—and now this? You gotta love spring in the ATL.

Just like old times
The red carpet in front of the Woodruff Arts Center on Monday night couldn’t have fit another mover-shaker. Dallas Austin, Diana DeGarmo, Ted Turner—heck, even Martina Navratilova showed up for the world premiere of Jane Fonda’s (above, with Turner) latest flick, “Georgia Rules,” starring Felicity Huffman and, yes, Lindsay Lohan. The event benefited the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, and the high auction bid of the night was J-Fo’s $100,000 on the trip to Ted’s Argentina ranch—“To keep someone else out of his bed!” she cracked. As for Lohan—a very conspicuous no-show. That night, the young starlet was spotted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York City (inset).

A big week for Mr. Young
Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young should be resting up right about now after a very busy week. It started last Sunday night with his 75th birthday celebration at the Hyatt Regency (Bill Clinton, Maya Angelou, Jane Fonda—all there). On Monday, Young and wife Caroyln showed up at the G-CAPP “Georgia Rules” premiere (see above). Then, on Tuesday, it was on to the Atlanta Business League’s 29th Annual CEO Luncheon at the Marriot Marquis, where he and his “Goodworks International” were honored as Entrepreneur of the Year. One word: Whew.

Looking good, doing good
Style and charity? Take about a win-win. Stephanie Blank (above right) hosted the “Look Good and Do Good” luncheon at Midtown’s Ecco on May 2 to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—luring out the likes of Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders (center left) and New York fashion designer, Tory Burch (center right), as well as Spanx founder Sara Blakely (below right). The highlight? The sneak preview of Burch’s fall collection, modeled by Blakely, Borders—and even Jane Fonda.

Reading rules
Atlanta acting veteran Tom Key (far left)—he runs Theatrical Outfit—showed up at a rally in front of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s headquarters in downtown Atlanta last week. The point? To protest the paper’s downsizing of its book reviews. Key’s tack? To read a passage from “The Moviegoer” by Walker Percy. Nice pick, Tom. We’re sold.

Dan the man
It was a touching moment a couple of weeks back (Thursday, May 3), when Dan Rather choked up while giving a talk at Atlanta’s Mariott Marquis, pondering how many lives had been lost in the wars he’d covered as journalist. The event? The Atlanta Press Club’s Annual Gala, at which Rather was the keynote speaker. Somber, sobering stuff.
